!Bangs (!)

Michael Rockwell, writing for Initial Charge:

With all the recent talk of DuckDuckGo, I’m surprised that no one is mentioning the search engine’s best feature — !Bangs. They’re modifiers that let you easily search for content on specific sites. Input the query “lifefactory !a” and DucDuckGo will take you to a search results page on Amazon for the term “lifefactory.” If you enter “hearthstone !yt” it’ll forward you to a search of YouTube for the term “hearthstone.”

I made the leap this weekend and switched over all my default search on my various devices over to DuckDuckGo, and I was immediately pleased with the results. It's an adjustment, to be sure, but it was time to be more serious about breaking away from Google and value my privacy. You know, practice what I preach and all that.

Anyhow, I Tweeted something about the switch and Michael replied to introduce me to !Bangs. This feature is awesome, and gave me a cool new thing I could latch onto to encourage me to continue using DuckDuckGo. So simple.

Also can't help but just yell, "BANGS," in my mind when I use them.
